Some people take the holidays off – I, however, enjoy Christmas vacation by spreading classic cartoon joy all over my Southern California home base. On Christmas Day, December 25th, I will be back with another one hour radio broadcast at 6pm on KPFK (90.7 FM) Southern California. I call the show CARTOONS IN STEREO, and I play a selection of vintage music from the 1930s through 1960s that are from cartoons or inspired by cartoons. It’s a heck of a lot of fun. Listen live, or check back here (I’ll post the broadcast here after it airs). Tune In, Turn On, Toon Up!

The day after Christmas – Tuesday, December 26th (aka Boxing Day) at 2:00 PM & 7:00 PM – I’ll be appearing live in glorious Glendale California to screen some of the best theatrical cartoons ever made – on the BIG screen. Giggle along with Mickey Mouse, Superman, Popeye, Goofy, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Donald Duck, and many more favorites, from the crème de la crème of Toons of the Golden Age of Classic Cartoons. Animation know-it-all Frank Gladstone will join me on stage at the historic Alex Theatre in Glendale to introduce.
Our program will include:
Robin Hood Daffy (1958) – Starring Daffy Duck and Porky Pig
Mickey’s Fire Brigade (1935) – Starring Donald, Goofy, and Mickey as fire fighters
Plumbing Is a Pipe (1938) – Starring Popeye, Oyl, and Wimpy
The Magnetic Telescope (1942) – Starring Superman, with art deco design scenery
Horton Hatches the Egg (1942) – Dr. Seuss’s first book adapted for the screen
Screwball Squirrel (1944) – The first of Tex Avery’s screwy Squirrel cartoons
All the Cats Join In (1946) – Music by the Benny Goodman Orchestra with stunning animation by Freddie Moore
And more! For further details – check the Alex Film Society website.
