One of the most iconic cyberpunk anime franchises brings Season 2 of its series Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 to Blu-ray for the first time in certain North American e-commerce stores. Brought to audiences by Anime Limited, with distribution from Shout! Studios, this limited edition set promises collectors a variety of bonus content and special items with its release on September 16th, 2025.
Ghost in the Shell: SAC_2045 Season 2, directed by Kenji Kamiyama and animated by Production I.G, continues the first season’s plotline with the rising conflict between the Posthumans and Section 9. The spin-off series has been adapted from Masamune Shirow’s 1980’s manga, Ghost in the Shell. As a more recent addition to the franchise, the series aims to immerse audiences in a futuristic setting with highly advanced tech and modern CG animation to match.
The Blu-ray set includes the entirety of the second season across 2 discs, viewable in Japanese with English subtitles. In addition, the set comes with a 100 page artbook, various merch design work, lighting boards, an illustration gallery, 4 character art cards, a 11.7 x 16.5” folded poster, and bonus features. Synopsis
In the year 2045, after the economic disaster known as Global Simultaneous Default sent each country back to its roots, the evolution of artificial intelligence has skyrocketed. Consequently, the world fell into the Sustainable War, a war designed to persist endlessly. Despite everything, the average person isn’t aware of the risks brought on by AI. In response to the cybercrimes committed by the recently emerged Posthumans, Public Security Section 9, led by Kusanagi Motoko, heads to the ruins of Tokyo. There, they discover a hostile American Special Forces unit and the refugee group “N.” With the escalating threat of nuclear war, the ongoing conflict deepens between Public Security Section 9, America, and the Posthumans.
