Sony Pictures Animation and Netflix’s Oscar-winning “KPop Demon Hunters” continues to be a global powerhouse, more than a year after its June 2025 release. A core part of the phenomenon is the music, with songs from girl group Huntrix and boy band Saja Boys dominating the charts.
Neckwav provided the singing voice of Abby Saja in the film, performing on hit tunes “Soda Pop” and “Your Idol”. Ahead of his New York Comic Con 2026 on-stage panel discussion with Emmy-nominated producer and actor Rich Ting (“Tulsa King”, “Staycation”), Neckwav shared with me how he felt about working on the movie, including his friendship with Academy Award winning directors Maggie Kang and Chris Appelhans:
“I met them through the movie. I got to see Maggie in Korea a little earlier than Chris. They’re amazing people. Forever grateful for literally changing my life. And hopefully for the sequel maybe I might be back. There’s nothing confirmed yet. The fact that they were able to bring Korean culture… [It’s] so cool that beyond Korea everyone wants to know, everyone wants to get involved. An amazing experience that I’ve had.”

A “KPop Demon Hunters” sequel is in the works, with a possible 2029 theatrical, global release. As part of the roundtable press interview session, Neckwav discussed how he recorded his vocals in Korea one night at 10pm about a year before the movie came out. He didn’t know his voice would be for the Abby character and also “had no idea about the plot.”
This was Neckwav’s first time at NYCC, and he told me how excited he was to be there: “Still kind of amazed by the size of the convention… the people.” He also admits that the fandom, “is still very unbelievable. Still feels unreal at this point.”
Through his production company label, Ting is representing Neckwav, as well as Andrew Choi, the singing voice of Jinu, who was also originally scheduled to attend but couldn’t make it. Ting told the press roundtable how proud he is of the film’s impact. As for the next steps with Neckwav and Choi, Ting shared, “My goal is to show [them] and to promote them as individuals beyond their animated characters. They’ve been in the game for years.”
