Netflix is returning to the Annecy International Animation Film Festival with an expansive slate of films and series spanning multiple genres, spotlighting acclaimed filmmakers alongside emerging creative voices. The showcase comes on the heels of a landmark year for Netflix Animation, including KPop Demon Hunters earning two historic Oscar wins* — becoming the first non-Disney/Pixar animated film ever to win more than one Academy Award, as well as Netflix’s second animated film to win an Oscar within four years. Netflix titles also collected 13 Annie Awards, including three for Love, Death + Robots, while Ultraman: Rising won Children and Family Emmy Awards for Outstanding Animated Special as well as Sound Mixing & Sound Editing for an Animated Program.

The upcoming Annecy lineup will feature exclusive first looks at Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory and The One Piece during the Next on Netflix Animation Showcase, alongside a dedicated Anime Studio Focus highlighting The One PieceSparks of TomorrowThe Ribbon Hero, and anime-inspired titles including Blue Eye Samurai season 2 and Bass X Machina. The festival will also debut new concept art from Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn, with Aardman co-founder Peter Lord moderating a conversation with Bird, while Ricky Gervais’ upcoming adult comedy Alley Cats will unveil a new still and release date. Additionally, Netflix will confirm the release year for its upcoming Ghostbusters series, with Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan set to attend, and celebrate KPop Demon Hunters with a special outdoor sing-along screening.

Here’s the rundown:

Steps Work-in-Progress session at Salle Pierre Lamy on Tuesday, 23 June featuring directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa, art director Dan Casey, and head of character animation Jason Figliozzi. The panel will offer a behind-the-scenes look at the reimagining of the classic Cinderella story, retold through the eyes of one of the infamous “evil” step-sisters.

Also on Tuesday, Netflix will present a dedicated Anime Studio Focus titled “Netflix Anime: Bold Stories, Boundless Worlds” at la Salle de la Volière. As the streaming home for anime, with more than 150 million Netflix members worldwide choosing to watch the genre, the presentation promises an exciting showcase designed for devoted anime fans, casual viewers, and newcomers alike. Attendees can expect an in-depth preview of upcoming projects including The One PieceSparks of Tomorrow, and The Ribbon Hero, as well as anime-inspired series Blue Eye Samurai season 2 and Bass X Machina.

Next on Netflix Animation: from Ghostbusters to Brad Bird’s Ray Gunn returns to Théâtre Bonlieu on Wednesday, 24 June. Executive producers Jason Reitman and Gil Kenan, alongside showrunners/executive producers Ben Hibon and Elliott Kalan, will present a world-exclusive preview of next year’s Ghostbusters series, produced in partnership with Sony Pictures Animation. Visionary filmmaker Brad Bird will also appear on stage to share personal insight into Ray Gunn, his long-awaited passion project more than 30 years in the making and produced at Skydance Animation. The discussion will be moderated by stop-motion pioneer Peter Lord, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Aardman, which is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. The showcase will also feature exclusive glimpses of The One Piece and the animated feature Charlie vs. the Chocolate Factory.

A masterclass with multi-award-winning comedian Ricky Gervais will take place at Théâtre Bonlieu on Thursday, 25 June. Gervais, creator and director of the upcoming adult comedy series Alley Cats, will participate in a moderated discussion and audiences will receive an early preview of two episodes ahead of the show’s Netflix debut on Friday, 7 August.

The Ribbon Hero will make its world premiere as part of the festival’s Annecy Presents programming.

To mark the first anniversary of KPop Demon Hunters becoming a global cultural sensation, Netflix will host an outdoor sing-along screening on Wednesday, 24 June along Lake Annecy.

Additionally, Sparks of Tomorrow (Episode 1), Long Story Short (Episode – “Shira Can’t Cook”), and Love, Death + Robots (Episode – “How Zeke Got Religion”) will compete in Annecy’s Official TV Films Competition.
