Meow Wolf has teamed up with THE SIMPSONS to create a mind-bending couch gag that will delight fans of both iconic institutions! The arts and entertainment company collaborated with THE SIMPSONS on an extended opening intro, joining the list of cultural icons who have reimagined the show’s famous couch gag: Banksy, Guillermo del Toro, Don Hertzfeldt, Bill Plympton, Sylvain Chomet, John Kricfalusi, Robot Chicken, Eric Goldberg, and Steve Cutts. Eagle-eyed fans on YouTube and Discord already discovered some Meow Wolf Easter eggs in the initial Disney+ announcement of the exclusive episode “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition.

“Getting the opportunity to be part of the show that has warped our minds since we were kids is a huge honor and an experience we will never forget,” said Emily Montoya, Co-Founder of Meow Wolf and Creative Director of Omega Mart. “Working with Matt Selman and his team was fantastic. From the beginning, they supported and encouraged all our crazy ideas and helped us hone the piece into its final form. We’re especially grateful for their help encapsulating Matt King’s rainbow wizard essence into cameo form.”

“I’ve been a huge fan of Meow Wolf ever since I spent hours losing myself in Omega Mart in Las Vegas,” said Matt Selman, Showrunner and Executive Producer of THE SIMPSONS. “After losing myself for many, many, many more hours in the Santa Fe and Denver Meow Wolf installations, I dreamed of trying to steal some of their artist-driven conceptual genius for THE SIMPSONS.

The sequence opens in the familiar realm of the grocery store, where Marge reaches for an Omega Cola and promptly falls out of her own show. What follows is a surreal free fall through a floating menagerie of Easter eggs pulled from Meow Wolf locations, including a poignant tribute to the company’s late Co-founder Matt King, sharing a drink with Barney in Cowboix Hevvven. True to Meow Wolf form, the walls of dimension don’t hold. The animation bursts out of two dimensions and into the physical world, where a crew of artists — all dressed as Otto the bus driver — builds an immersive art take on the family’s iconic couch scene.

“This has been a dream collaboration, in that I had to do almost nothing, other than a few Zoom meetings,” said Selman. “The brilliant minds at Meow Wolf reimagined the ‘couch gag’ in a way that only they could — delivering the silliness and surreality and homemade outsider sensibility that has blown so many minds. Thank you to all the artists and artisans (not sure of the difference, but maybe there is one) at Meow Wolf for crafting this superbly joyful couch gag!”

The couch gag debuts in “Extreme Makeover: Homer Edition,” the double-episode premiering June 17, 2026, exclusively on Disney+. The special guest stars Betty Gilpin, with musical guests Laufey and Tegan and Sara. It is the first of three all-new “The Simpsons” episodes streaming on the platform this summer.

“Meow Wolf started out as a DIY art collective, building installations out of junk scavenged from dumpsters, donated buckets of paint and massive amounts of cardboard,” said Montoya.

“This project allowed us to get back to those roots and we had a blast revisiting our chaotic improvisational style of collaborative art making. What you see onscreen is the light from a supernova that exploded in 2008 and traveled through many galaxies, grocery stores, refrigerators, sentient forests and perpendicular planes of reality to get to where we are in the present day. Maybe all we are is a reflection in the single black dot that forms the pupil of a metalhead bus driver named Otto.
