Today, May 7th, 2026, GKIDS announced the theatrical release of Another World, a grim fantasy animated film following Gudo, a Soul Keeper. Another World will arrive in North American theaters on June 5th, with its original Cantonese audio available with English subtitles. In addition, GKIDS released an all-new poster and teaser ahead of the film’s theatrical release. Home entertainment details are said to come later this year.

Another World marks Tommy Ng Kai Chung’s directorial debut. Film producer veteran Chan Gin Kai produced the film alongside writer Polly Yeung Po Man. In 2019, a 14-minute short was released that built enough interest to lead into the now full feature length film that is Another World. Most recently, Another World made its debut at the 2025 Annecy Festival as one of the Official Selections in the Midnight Specials category, making it the first animated feature from Hong Kong to be invited to Annecy in over two decades. It’s gone on to become Hong Kong’s highest-grossing film of 2025 and in all of their film history. Another World was also awarded “Best Animated Feature” at the 62nd Golden Horse Awards.

As a collaboration with artists from around the world, including Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan, France, and the Philippines, the film has been financed by the Film Development Fund of Hong Kong and Cultural and Creative Industries Development Agency, AnimeKey, Full Colour Limited, TMZ Media, and Digital Hollywood University, including a production grant from the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Another World has been adapted from Naka Sajio’s novel, SENNENKI, with publishing by Tokuma Shoten Publushing Co., Ltd.

Synopsis

As a Soul Keeper, Gudo helps human souls wash away their memories and reincarnate without regret, but a newly departed girl named Yuri desperately wishes to find her brother. With the regret still lingering, the truth of her brother’s whereabouts will need to be found by viewing the past directly. If her soul isn’t purified and her regrets allowed to grow, the power of her wrath may threaten both Earth and the afterlife.
