BLUE EYE SAMURAI n S2 E3 00 09 39 02 R1

Netflix brings exciting news for fans of its hit original animated show Blue Eye Samurai as it returns with season 2 this January 19th, 2027. Last fans saw in the first season, Mizu set off to sail to London in search of the last two men who may be her father. Season 2 shall pick up where Mizu left off in her quest for revenge.

The upcoming season will air 6 new episodes upon its release date, brought to audiences by the same creative team behind the successful season 1. Creators Amber Noizumi and Michael Green return as both the executive producers and writers. The French animation studio Blue Spirit has once again animated for Blue Eye Samurai, bringing back the stunningly unique hybrid 3D and 2D art style seen in the prior season.

Maya Erskine reprises her role as the beloved mixed-race samurai Mizu, alongside Brenda Song as Akemi, Darren Barnet as Taigen, and Masi Oka as Ringo. New cast members coming this season include Jonathan Pryce as Old Violet, Joel Kim Booster as Priest Ando, and Sherry Cola as Kuma.

In 2023, the creators said to Netflix, “When we started this project, we made a commitment to take this very personal story set in Edo-period Japan and bring it to life in the most authentic and beautiful way possible. Our animators, historians, musicians, martial artists, and voice cast made this a reality beyond our expectations.”

They continued to say, “We are thankful to our entire team and to our viewers from all over the world who have shown such passion for Mizu and her path of revenge. Mizu has a lot more blood to spill! We are deeply grateful to our incredible partners at Netflix for letting the journey continue.”

With the new season coming out early 2027, Blue Eye Samurai is on track to meet its intended completion on time in 2028. Noizumi and Green explained to Netflix, “From our first episode, we knew how Mizu’s journey would eventually end—we just never knew whether we’d be lucky enough to have the chance to get her there. Well, we got lucky! The audience showed up for Mizu. Having worked in TV a long time, we can tell you, to finish your story as planned is a rare privilege and a career highlight.”

Blue Eye Samurai season 1 remains at the ready for fans to watch ahead of season 2, only on Netflix.
