Warner Archive Collection Releases “POPEYE THE SAILOR: The 1940s” Vol. 2

More big news for classic cartoon fans, collectors and anyone who loves to laugh: Warner Archive Collection is releasing, on June 18th, 2019 the second set of restored 1940s Paramount Popeye cartoons POPEYE THE SAILOR: The 1940s Vol. 2. It’s a continuation of the Popeye cartoon series from Paramount’s Famous Studios – collecting the sailor’s the earliest Technicolor, Cinecolor and “PolaColor” films – Yes, on both DVD and blu ray (sold separately) for the first time ever on home media. Transferred from the original negatives, complete and uncut; check out the frame grabs below for a sneak peek at the picture quality. If this looks good to you – Pre-order it now for delivery this month – a perfect centerpiece to your Fourth Of July Festivities.

Here come fifteen new adventures of our favorite two-fisted fighter – this set collects the next two years of Popeye’s animated theatrical shorts (1946 and 1947), complete, intact and politically incorrect. On this new disc you’ll travel with Popeye and crew all around the globe under the sea, and into outer space! Popeye not only rockets to Mars, he becomes a cowboy out west, fights pirates on the high seas, and tackles wild game in Africa. He and his lady love Olive Oyl also find romance (and usually some Bluto-like rival) while traveling back to medieval times, exploring the fictional middle eastern city of “Badgag” – as well as climbing mountain peaks in the frozen Klondike.

This is classic animation at its finest – featuring zany cartoon action from the pens of veteran animators Jim Tyer, John Gentilella, Dave Tendlar, Marty Taras, as well powerfully dynamic direction from (Disney) animation legend Bill Tytla.

The collection includes: House Tricks, Service With A Guile, Klondike Casanova, Peep In The Deep, Rocket To Mars, Rodeo Romeo, Fistic Mystic, The Island Fling, Abusement Park, I’ll Be Skiing You, Popeye and The Pirates, The Royal Floor Flusher, Wotta Knight, Safari So Good, All’s Fair At The Fair.
