Just yesterday, Netflix released their lineup of upcoming animation for 2026 and early 2027, announced from the Annecy International Animation Film Festival. Release dates for In Waves and Ray Gunn were announced, and among the new images and teasers, a first look for Ghostbusters: Night Shift was also unveiled.

Set to release in 2027, Ghostbusters: Night Shift follows a group of wannabe ghostbusters in the earlier stage of their careers. Using makeshift tech and learning the ins and outs of the paranormal, this scrappy group of barely trained heroes will face new terrors in a uniquely animated style, all taking place in the 1990s. The animated series is set to be an official, canon piece of the Ghostbusters franchise.

From multi award-winning comedian Ricky Gervais, adult animated show Alley Cats gains a new image to build hype for its release on August 7th. Its voice cast features After Life veterans, and even Diane Morgan known for her lead role as Philomena Cunk in Cunk on Earth. Blink Industries handles animating these alley cats, the studio responsible for Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared, as Gervais directs with his signature humour style a sitcom about a ragtag band of feral British cats. Talents from horror and comedy alike are coming together for a more simple yet absurd experience.

In Waves receives its release date of December 11th of this year, as well as a new image for the emotional film. Directed by Phuong Mai Nguyen and based on the graphic novel of the same name by AJ Dungo, In Waves is a coming of age story centering the ocean, and tragedy. AJ, an introverted artist meets Kristen, a passionate surfer, and their relationship faces hardship as Kristen develops a debilitating illness. Together, they will navigate grief using the strength they gain from each other, all shown in a touching expressive style meant to enchant a viewer’s heart.

Taking place in an alternate sci-fi future inspired by a 1939 perspective, Ray Gunn follows private eye Raymond Gunn on a murder case involving the celebrity Venus Nova. Both leads are voiced by prodigious faces Sam Rockwell and Scarlet Johansson respectively, and directed by Brad Bird, known for his directing talent on The Incredibles and Ratatouille. Ray Gunn releases this December 18th, 2026.

The tale of Cinderella gets subverted yet again in Steps, following Cinderella’s so-called evil stepsister Lilith, tired of living in her fabled sister’s shadow. Ali Wong voices the protagonist Lilith, Amanda Seyfried voices the well-known Cinderella, and Stephanie Hsu voices Margot, another evil stepsister. Releasing November 20th, this latest fairytale film from directors Alyce Tzue and John Ripa has all the hallmarks of a classic feel-good family tale.

Well-regarded to be one of the industry’s most versatile and profound animators, Yuki Igarashi not only directs the upcoming film The Ribbon Hero, he also leads the talented studio OUTLINE on all of the film’s sure to be stunning visuals. Based on the very first magical girl series Princess Knight, Sapphire, the princess of Silverland, loses her kingdom to a great calamity and travels to Goldland, where the heart of these new people emboldens her to save them from a similar fate. With a ribbon and sword, a beautiful artistic showing is coming this August 8th.

Lastly, coming next year in February of 2027, The One Piece plans to air as a modern adaptation of the earliest seasons of One Piece, meant to recapture the familiar origins of Monkey D. Luffy for new and old watchers alike. Produced by WIT Studio, known for their style’s charm in Attack on Titan’s earlier seasons and Spy x Family, and directed by Masashi Koizuka, director on several titles and similarly Attack on Titan as well, The One Piece sets sail with a consistent cast suited for tackling such a legendary and beloved franchise.
