Today, Netflix released their final trailer for their upcoming anime, The Ribbon Hero, as well as newly confirmed voice cast members. The Netflix exclusive title is adapted from the classic “Princess Knight” manga by Osamu Tezuka, and is set to premiere on August 8.

The final trailer depicts Sapphire in a distant land bonding with her new companions as she sets out to take on Nergal with her power as the Ribbon Hero. While her people may have let go of any hope of resisting after the continuous invasions from Nergal, Sapphire refuses to stand down. With her unrelenting resolve, Sapphire inspires courage in her companions. At the same time, the tension only increases as Velvet hints to their true motives.

Sapphire’s doubts come to surface as she struggles in her mission, but the words of her companions she previously inspired keep her going. Character growth for each character is foreshadowed in the trailer, as well as high stakes action sequences that fans can look forward to.

Also revealed in the trailer is five new voice actors that play the workers at the mining site: Yoshimasa Hosoya as Rock, Mito Tsukino as Hecate, Yusuke Tezuka as Chorogy, Lulun as Chick, and Debidebi Debiru as Tack. Mito Tsukino, Lunlun, and Debidebi Debiru are also VTubers from the Youtuber group NIJISANJI, and The Ribbon Hero marks their debut in voice acting for anime.

As one of the industry’s well respected animators, Yuki Igarashi directs the film. He’s known for his impressive work on JuJutsu Kaisen Season 1 as he alone handled the ending sequence. Previously, he made his directorial debut with Star Wars: Visions – Lop & Ochō, which was well received in Japan and around the world for its quality storytelling and action sequences. The Ribbon Hero has become the first feature-length film Igashari has directed.

The character designs were provided by Kei Mochizuki, who was able to bring her experience from previously designing characters for games like Fate/Grand Order and Touken Ranbu. Mai Yoneyama, previously the ending director for Cyberpunk: Edgerunners and Lazarus, served as a collaborator on the character concepts. Issei Araki is additionally a character designer for animation, with Cedric Herold as the art director. Animation has been produced by animation studio OUTLINE, led by director Igarashi.

Synopsis

Silverland’s princess Sapphire lost her kingdom to the great calamity known as “Nergal,” leaving her to grieve her lost people as she winds up in Goldland. The kindness of the people there helps fill the void from what she lost, but when the calamity rears its head again, Sapphire takes up a sword and ribbon to fight the storm that threatens to take her world again.
