The ongoing serialized classic One Piece is receiving a separate reboot, The One Piece, starting from the very beginning with the East Blue saga. Old and new fans can experience the origins of Monkey D. Luffy in Wit Studio’s animation style, updated and refreshed, premiering February 2027 exclusively on Netflix. 

Season 1 is planned to encompass around the first 50 chapters of Eiichiro Oda’s manga, leading up to the introduction of Sanji. Concept art showcasing a snapshot of Luffy’s childhood in Windmill Village was shared, with the Red-Hair Pirates and their captain Shanks hanging around PARTYS BAR, the very moment when Luffy’s adventure first began.

The One Piece is directed by Masashi Koizuka, a director and anime veteran from classics such as Durarara!!, Baccano!, and Attack on Titan. Hideaki Abe, assistant director, brings his specialized experience into the reboot as well, having worked on Jujutsu Kaisen, Mob Psycho 100, and My Hero Academia’s 3rd season. Along with Masashi Koizuka, Wit Studio has specialized in Attack on Titan and boasts an impressive roster as well, promising an exciting amount of potential for The One Piece’s production.

Synopsis

Monkey D. Luffy dreams of becoming the King of Pirates, and thanks to accidentally eating a mysterious Devil Fruit, he has the unique ability to stretch his body like rubber. His starting journey as a wannabe pirate leads him to encounters with potential friends and foes alike, as he assembles the Straw Hat Pirates and seeks the fabled treasure known as the “One Piece.”
