MONDO & VRV Team Up for “Turbo Fantasy”

He’s just your average sports center duty-manager-turned-vigilante who lives in another dimension, trying to get along with two sidekicks while they ostensibly fight crime. His name: Turbo Fantasy.

Growing animation company MONDO today premieres the second season of Scottish animator Davey Ferguson’s Turbo Fantasy, which is available only on Ellation’s VRV platform. Turbo Fantasy has grown from a series of two-minute-long vignettes into a series of full-fledged character-driven shorts. Seven brand-new episodes of Turbo Fantasy will air weekly beginning today, with seven additional new episodes set to debut in 2019.

Created, drawn, animated and largely voiced by Ferguson, Turbo Fantasy blends bold, simplistic art styles – borrowing elements from 1960s limited-animation action cartoons – with colorful, unexpected filmmaking techniques that lend the series a distinctive look that combines nostalgia with modern animation trends.

In addition to the premiere of Turbo Fantasy on VRV, MONDO retains international digital and broadcast distribution rights to the series.

“The animation’s deliberately janky, the camera’s shaky, and there’s dirt on the lens – all to give Turbo Fantasy a feeling of past-its-prime nostalgia on top of a modern self-awareness,” said Glasgow, Scotland-based creator Ferguson (Twitter: @swatpaz), who conceives of, draws and animates each episode by hand himself, and also provides the voice of almost every character. “I hope the second season will be a hit with fans of the first, and of course introduce Turbo Fantasy to a whole new set of fans through VRV.”

Ferguson’s recent credits include the “Water Park Prank” guest episode of Adventure Time and the PS4/PC game Loot Rascals.

“VRV is the perfect home for Turbo Fantasy,” added April Pesa, vice president of development and distribution for MONDO, which helped Ferguson develop the series. “Turbo Fantasy represents the singular vision of one enormously talented man, who has grown up being deeply influenced by pop culture – and it shows in this totally one-of-a-kind series.”

Naïve Turbo Fantasy is a self-professed superhero who might not be all there mentally, but has his heart in the right place. When he’s not planning his missions in the sports center in a strange and unnamed dimension, he’s fighting crime on Earth with the assistance (and sometimes interference) of two sidekicks: Greggy, a somewhat tech-savvy duck, and Colin, a menacing teenager.

Turbo Fantasy joins the ever-growing slate of content available to animation fans on VRV’s MONDO channel, which features a wide array of series produced by MONDO’s production studio Six Point Harness, including Cat Agent, Deep Space 69, the acclaimed French action thriller Last Man, and Gary and His Demons, as well as the global viral hits Dick Figures and Happy Tree Friends. In addition, a library of dozens of individual animated shorts and additional content from MONDO and Six Point Harness are available on VRV.
